8/8 – A Special Alsace and Oregon Wine Tasting & Small Plate Experience

  • A Special Alsace and Oregon Wine Tasting & Small Plate Experience
    August 8, 2024
    6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Much has been said about the connection between Oregon and Burgundy: how would-be winemakers from America fell in love with wines from Bourgogne, especially Pinot Noir, and planted vineyards in the Willamette Valley, hoping the cool climate would allow them to produce wines of similar beauty. Then when those Pinot Noirs turned out to be impressively good, the Burgundians returned the compliment by investing in Willamette Valley and establishing wineries there. But what about Oregon and Alsace? Where did all that Pinot Gris come from?

Please join us Thursday, August 8th, 6:00pm as we explore the viticultural exchange between Alsace and the Willamette Valley through a guided wine tasting, led by our sommelier, Alex Bardsley. Alex will trace the history of Alsatian influence in Oregon, dating back to the 19th century, and illustrate how the exchange continues with three pairings of Alsatian and Willamette Valley wines, accompanied by savory small dishes prepared by Chef Jacques and his team.

We will see (and taste) how much the two regions have in common: both boast a great variety of different vineyard soils (unlike Burgundy), and grow many different grape varieties (also unlike Burgundy). Both are hotbeds of winemaking innovation. And they are the two wine regions most committed to sustainability in their respective countries. But most of all, the wines are exciting and delicious!  Early reservations are encouraged. Merci beaucoup and see you there!
