Greetings from Chef Jacques and Paul
We are très excited for the fall season and the upcoming November and December holidays here at L’Auberge Chez Franҫois – a magical time of the year, indeed!   

As the weather transitions to chilly temperatures, our three fireplaces will be roaring inside to keep you warm, and the firewood will be stocked for Jacques’ Brasserie firepit – a perfect spot to enjoy mulled wine or hot cider and good cheer.    

We are proud to share with you a full lineup of exciting November events, including two musical brunches, a Michael Shaps wine dinner, a delectable chocolate and wine festival, our holiday wine fest and luncheon, and for the first time – a “Hats off to Beaujolais” dinner.  Also, Chef Jacques’ will be presenting his classic Thanksgiving holiday cooking demo and luncheon, with a special emphasis on sauce preparations and roasting techniques.  Last but not least, a holiday Rock and Roll supper with “The Tunematics”, and moi, banging on the drums!   So many November events for everyone to enjoy!   Happy Fall!

Burgundy Meets Virginia Dinner with the Wines of Maison Shaps and Michael Shaps Wineworks
Please join us for an extraordinary event on Friday, November 8th, 2019 at 7:00 PM, where France meets Virginia in the wines of Michael Shaps Wineworks and Maison Shaps. Known for his innovation and winemaking expertise, Michael Shaps has established himself at the forefront of the modern Virginia wine industry. Producing wines under the Michael Shaps label and for several prestigious wineries throughout the state–one winning the Governor’s Cup in 2017–his accolades and national recognition are beyond compare. Mr. Shaps also holds a degree in Enology and Viticulture from the Lycée Viticole de Beaune in Burgundy, and has been making wine in Burgundy since 2004. Both his French and Virginian wines are made in traditional, old-world style, with careful attention to detail but minimal intervention.

Premier Chocolate and Wine Festival  Featuring Leslie Hollander of Sugar Up, Sugar!
Please join us Sunday, November 10th 2019 at 3:00 PM for a luscious and enlightening Chocolate and Wine Tasting.Pastry Chef and Artisanal Confectioner Leslie Hollander of Sugar Up, Sugar! will be joining our head sommelier, Alex Bardsley, this afternoon to present for your pleasure, three flights of wine and truffle pairings. Sugar Up, Sugar! is a small local pastry business originating in Great Falls Virginia. Leslie Hollander is the Pastry Specialist/Owner and known for her creative flavor combinations.  Leslie creates each chocolate from scratch, made from quality ingredients and chef tested recipes. Each wine flight will consist of two wines, and each wine will be paired with two specially created truffles. (6 wines sampled and 12 unique truffles). Alex will introduce each wine, and together he and Leslie will discuss, to your delight, how the chocolate confections and the wines play off each other in an “oh so” decadent way! The tasting will be preceded by a meet and greet reception with Chef Jacques’ tasty hors  d’oeuvres and a glass of crisp Crémant d’Alsace. Holiday Celebration Wine Fest and Luncheon

A Holiday Rock and Roll Sunday Supper Featuring  -The Tunematics- and an Encore Performance of Chef Jacques on the Drums

Be part of the celebration for a fantastic festive Sunday Supper on Sunday, November 24th, 2019 at 5:30 PM, with a wholesome serving of some of your favorite Rock and Roll songs from “The Tunematics”! This unique group is a combined powerhouse of three lead vocalist bandleaders, each from their own well established local band!  Their friendship brought them together to enjoy playing the songs they love and their performances have drawn accolades for their engaging delivery of good songs for good times! The Tunematics includes Scott Butler from Vienna’s Party Band, “Fat Chance”, Tim Wynne, from “The Odyssey Band” and “The Classics”, Michael Terpak from the “Mike Terpak Blues Explosion” and Drummer Mark Lucas, a founding member of “Cowboy Jazz” and the go-to drummer for artists such as The Dinettes, Darryl Davis, Cold Hard Cash and The Fabulettes. Team Member of the Month
This month we honor Javier Chavez Portillo who joined joined L’Auberge Chez François in July of 2013. Javier started as a dishwasher and quickly moved up to one of our day time prep cooks. Part of his responsibilities include cooking delicious meals for our daily staff meals. Javier always has a smile on his face and is always ready to help with other tasks. Thank you so much Javier for the wonderful job that you do!

Greetings from Chef Jacques and Paul:

Happy Early Fall!

We’re full-speed ahead into fall and are embracing beautiful outdoor dining weather on our two terraces and wine and beer garden.

The foliage around our terraces and gardens is simply breathtaking when the rays of sun illuminate the changing, glowing leaves at sunset.

Come for a walk and a glass of wine, a meal, or one of our delightful October events!  Not to mention, fire pit weather will soon be upon us as well.  It’s my favorite time of the year!

October is Virginia Wine Month, so we have a great emphasis on, you guessed it, wine!  We have several champagne and wine dinners featuring some of our favorites from various French regions, a Virginia wine festival, and some acoustic and Jazz delights as part of our Music and Cuisine series.

Thank you for all the kind wishes myself, my brother Paul and my team received during our 65th anniversary month in September. The Haeringer family, including my papa and mama, have all been proud of the opportunity to have served thousands of our guests over the course of 65 years and will look forward to serving you at our own little slice of France at our French “auberge” in Great Falls well into the future!

Boizel Champagne Dinner Hosted by Export Director, Gabriel Faye

For the Boizel family, Champagne is more than just a story, it’s a passion: Five generations, five eras and a single tradition.  Indulge in an exquisite evening of luxurious French opulence at L’Auberge Chez François on Friday, October 4th at 7:00 PM with Chef Jacques and his team. “A Fall Frolic” Garden to Table Full Moon Harvest Dinner
The Garden to Table Dinner on Sunday, October 13th at 5:30 PM is a special chance for Chef Jacques to create a full menu featuring the very fresh items that come from our gardens while enjoying all the added healthful benefits.  Chef Jacques is still harvesting plenty of kale, lettuces, greens, haricots verts, cabbages, herbs and other produce from the garden. The full moon party begins with a reception, sipping North Gate Rhatsiteli and savoring seasonal canapés. We will toast the full moon’s fire, abundance, power and vitality, before sitting amid flowers and murmuring fountains to relish Chef Jacques’ garden-to-table inspired repast, from his two on-site gardens, accompanied by two more delectable wines. Those intrepid enough can join Chef Jacques in the gardens to conclude the evening by howling at the moon, the chef’s tradition to ensure an excellent harvest of vegetables and herbs throughout the season. You’ll find our garden produce proudly featured on our lunch, dinner and happy hour menus at L’Auberge Chez François and Jacques’ Brasserie. Trimbach Wine Dinner with Special Host 13th Generation Jean Trimbach

Team member of the Month

Mounir Belmourida joined our team in September 2015. He began working as a server -a  very quiet but friendly server who happened to be extremely tech-savvy. We can always count on him to help during power outages to get our tech systems back up and running. We slowly discovered his extensive background in private events and after bringing great new ideas to our special and private events department, he was named our Private Events Manager. Mounir always has a smile on his face and is always ready to lend a hand where needed. We thank him as he continues to ensure each  special and private event runs smoothly and leaves a memorable experience for our guests! Great job Mounir!

Greetings from Chef Jacques and Paul:

September will mark the 65th Anniversary of the founding of Chez François in Washington D.C.
I don’t think that my father, François, could have ever imagined then that we would still be going strong 65 years later. Many of our loyal patrons followed us from DC when we moved the restaurant to Great Falls and became an auberge.

We’ve expanded and evolved with Jacques’ Brasserie, two on-site gardens, weddings, private parties, corporate events and more and more special events.  I’m still honored and amazed at how often guests will stop to tell me their memories of eating with us in Washington D.C. and now in Great Falls, Virginia.

The painting above, gifted to my parents by Washington artist Lily Spandorf shows the sidewalk café tables of the original Chez François on Connecticut Avenue in the early 1960s. 

To mark our 65th Anniversary, we’ve scheduled a full month of special culinary events in September, kicked-off by a Labor Day Musical Sunday Summer Supper. Next up, a 65th anniversary “Friday Night on the Terrace” Wine Festival, “It’s Almost Fall” Musical Brunch, and a very special 65th Anniversary Alsatian Wine Dinner with Peter Weygandt.  Rounding out the celebrations are our wildly popular Fall Wine Festival and Luncheon and a lively Craft Beer Party featuring the award winning brews of our own Lost Rhino Brewing Company.  Now that’s a month long fun- filled with culinary happenings and festivities to honor Papa and his 65 years in this restaurant business!

Please celebrate with us on our 65th Anniversary and  Labor Day Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 5:30 PM, for another segment of our wildly popular Music and Cuisine series, with a “Musical Sunday Supper” featuring a delectable menu by Chef Jacques and team and the toe tapping and hand clapping music of Laura Van Duzer and The Chance Club Band. The Chance Club Band, featuring Laura Van Duzer (vocals, keys), Matthew Schleigh (vocals, guitar), and Jason Wilson (vocals, bass), combine strong harmonies and excellent playing, as they perform originals and covers from the 60’s thru today. Be sure to join us for a fun filled Labor Day weekend with a jamming Musical Summer Sunday Supper.

65th Anniversary and Friday Evening Outdoor Wine Tasting Soirée

Please join Chef Jacques and our team on Friday, September 6, 2019 from 7:00-9:00 PM, as we offer you a delightful way to kick off your weekend outdoors on our beautiful grounds of L’Auberge Chez François (weather permitting), overlooking our gardens, sipping fine wines while enjoying delectable cuisine, during our 65th anniversary month long celebrations.  We will be featuring eight wines from importer Peter Weygandt, many of which are new to the Virginia market, selected to complement the transition from summer to fall.  Peter Weygandt has been an importer of French wines since 1987, gaining a national and international reputation for the quality of his selections and his portfolio of top “boutique” French wines. In recent years, he has expanded his portfolio to include Italian, German, Austrian, Australian, and Spanish wines, representing more than 100 producers. To accompany the tasting, we will be serving our seasonal canapés, and delectable bites. Merci beaucoup and see you there!

“It’s Almost Fall” Musical Brunch
Featuring the Music of Laura Van Duzer
Join us on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM for a festive Sunday Brunch, on our outdoor terrace (weather permitting) as we toast the fall season, and as we celebrate 65 years of the founding of Chez François.  Today, we feature at L’Auberge Chez François, Laura Van Duzer for your listening pleasure to accompany our delectable brunch menu. Laura Van Duzer, a talented singer-songwriter, performer, pianist, and guitarist will be leading us today for all the fun.  Laura holds the position of Music Director and Performing Arts Department Chair for the Academy of Holy Cross, in Maryland, and is the former Choral Director for Bishop Denis J. A Very Special Alsatian Wine Dinner and 65th Anniversary Celebration with Peter Weygandt

Please join us Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 7:00 PM, as we present a wine tasting and dinner featuring the wines of three excellent Alsatian producers, Domaines Albert Mann, Henry Fuchs and Schoffit, all recent arrivals in the Virginia market. This month also marks the 65th Anniversary of the founding of Chez François in Washington D.C, by Papa Haeringer, a proud Alsatian indeed.
Chef Jacques welcomes Peter Weygandt of Weygant-Metzler Importing, who will be joining our head sommelier, Alex Bardsley, to introduce these fine wines, from our Homeland of Alsace. The evening will begin with a brief reception and our seasonal canapés, followed by a tasting in two flights before the dinner, the first consisting of three diverse expressions of Riesling and the second of two opulent Gewurztraminers.  Dinner will follow. Chef Jacques has crafted a special menu to showcase their charms.

Rafael Cruz Ramirez joined our team in June 2012. Rafael is one of our daytime dishwashers but that is not all he does. From polishing our copper ware to maintaining clean  dinning rooms, you can always count on him lend a helping hand with anything that needs to be done. Greetings from Chef Jacques and Paul
Summer is here!  Our organic gardens are in full swing and the flowers are all in bloom. Now is the perfect time of year for dining al fresco on one of our outdoor terraces (including the Brasserie under our new quad umbrella, complete with lighting).  While you’re here, take a tour of our beautiful gardens to see where our greens, vegetables and herbs are growing.

Did I mention that the garden is bursting with tomatoes right now? Our famous tomato salads are on the menu and it is included with the price of your meal at L’Auberge Chez François. You’ll also find our house-made Garden Bloody Mary’s on our weekend brunch menu, cold gazpacho soup, and warm tomato bisque.

Since his arrival to the U.S. 20 years ago from Russia, Matvei Sigalov has been active on the East Coast music scene and established himself as one of the premier improvising violinists. He has shared the stage with a wide array of artists, covering many styles including R&B, Gospel, Pop-Rock, Jazz , Brazilian and Fusion music. Matvi has played for Patti LaBelle, Isaac Hayes and James Ingram at the Kennedy Center in DC. He received a standing ovation at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, while opening for Stanley Clarke, Jean-Luke Ponty and Al DiMeola and has wowed an audience at the Iridium in NYC with guitar legend Les Paul! A Very Special Encore of Our Musical Sunday Supper Featuring My Way: Bob McDonald Sings Sinatra Classics
Please join us on Sunday, August 25th, 2019 at 5:30 PM for an encore sold-out performance of a very special Musical Sunday Supper featuring this talented trio, singing Sinatra Classics, and enjoy a menu filled with of our classical favorites at L’Auberge Chez François.    Vocalist Bob McDonald, pianist Tony Nalker and instrumentalist Scott Silbert celebrate the songs and life of legendary crooner Frank Sinatra with an evening of the most memorable songs from the singer’s film and concert performances. The program will be an evening of Sinatra classics worthy of any Rat Pack.  Bob McDonald is probably best known to the DC area as the National Anthem singer for the Washington Capitals hockey team. He also enjoys a diverse career across many artistic disciplines, including musical theater, opera, and the concert stage, as well as his job as an active-duty baritone and announcer in The United States Army Chorus. Bob has performed on most Washington DC area stages, including The Kennedy Center, Signature Theater, Folger Theater and others, and at various venues across the country. Bob received his BA and MA from Oberlin Conservatory of Music.   Tony Nalker performs widely in the Washington, D.C. area, currently serving as jazz pianist with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra Pops. From 1989-2016 Tony was the pianist of the premiere jazz ensemble of the U.S. Army, the Army Blues, and served as the group’s enlisted leader.  Tony received his undergraduate degree in music from James Madison University and his M.A. in music from the University of Iowa.   Scott Silbert, a multiple woodwind player and arranger, joined the Navy band jazz ensemble “Commodores” in 1991 on baritone sax, and later the arranging staff (1999), serving as the Navy Band’s chief arranger from 2002 until his retirement in 2017. Professionally, Scott has performed with or has written music for the National Symphony Orchestra, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Natalie Cole, Rosemary Clooney, Bob Hope, and Andy Williams, among many other luminaries. He is currently an active musician and arranger with the prestigious Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. An extraordinary fun filled evening, not to be missed!

Labor Day Weekend Night on The Terrace Wine Tasting & Musical Evening Under the Stars

Does life get any better than this?   Our sommeliers will be on-hand to guide you through a delectable tasting of eight fine wines from some of the world’s notable wine growing regions.  Why not stroll, with your wine, of course, to our two on-site budding vegetable and herb gardens, and tap your toes to our live music by Stephanie Ball   Stephanie is a native of Reston, Virginia that has been performing music locally in bands and duos for over 15 years.   She is an experienced lead singer, pianist and backing vocalist that delivers a fun and dynamic performance.  She performs popular cover songs where there’s always something for everyone. Her diverse set list includes artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Chris Isaak, Tom Petty, Norah Jones and Elle King.   All wines sampled will be available for purchase at a very special “trade” discounts for our customers that evening only. This month we honor Sara Murcia who joined L’Auberge Chez François in May of 2014. Sara began working at the front desk answering the phones and taking reservations, but quickly learned about the operations of the front of the house while assisting the office with behind the scenes coordination. Sara provides the best customer service and in addition to organizing Private Events and her being office manager, her other duties include taking photos for social media, uploading content and maintaining our website. We can always rely on Sara to do anything that is asked and she will take it upon herself to go the extra mile. Congratulations for a job well done, Sara! We value all of your contributions and dedication to the restaurants.

Greetings from Chef Jacques and Paul:

With the month of July upon us shortly, we would like to wish everyone an early Happy 4th of July and Happy Bastille Day!  Vive l’Amérique et Vive la France!

May I suggest, the best cure for our area’s hot sultry days should include a chilled glass of rosé or one of our five craft draft beers, including our newest creation, Papa’s Pilsner, under our new large umbrella at the Brasserie.  Add a just-picked vegetable salad from our two on-site vegetable gardens, and “voila” the cure for the summertime blues.

Beginning July 13th, we roll into a full weekend of Bastille Day celebratory events–a “let them eat cake” cooking demo, hosted by “moi”, a Bastille day musical brunch with Nancy Scimone and Wade Beach, and on that very evening, a Grand Bastille Day Soirée featuring our infamous waiters’ race around our gardens, a French themed dinner with the delectable Boisset Family Wines, Napoléon himself, and the beautiful French music of the Lynn Veronneau Duo.  What a great way to round out a fun, and festive weekend.

We also can’t wait to celebrate that perfect summer beverage, rosé- with rosé wine themed special events, including a rosé musical brunch on the terrace, a delectable rosé wine dinner and our summertime  wine festival, featuring rosé wines.  Drink Pink!

We’ll close out the month with a bang at our rock-and-roll supper, with the band generously allowing me to play a few favorites on the drums (vs my pots and pans).

Jose “Arnoldo” Cabrera joined our team June 2011 as line cook. Arnoldo’s easy going and friendly personality makes working with him pleasurable. Arnoldo is responsible for making sure our dishes are prepped and  plated properly and is well known in the kitchen for keeping an impeccably clean work station. Spring Greetings from Chef Jacques and Paul
The upcoming month promises to be delicious at L’Auberge Chez François and Jacques’ Brasserie. 

The gardens are now in full flush. We are serving the salads of the season made exclusively from greens grown right here on the property.  You can’t beat the freshness and flavor of organically grown greens that have traveled only a few yards to reach your plate. Each year we refine the varieties of lettuces and greens that we grow to create the perfect salad. We hope you’ll come in and tell us what you think of this year’s selection of Bibb, arugula, and mesclun lettuces, as well as our spinach and kale. 

To kick off June and the upcoming summer, we are hosting our first Delectable Chocolate and Wine Festival, a journey to our homeland of Alsace and “Classic French Estates”  wine dinners, a very special snappy Sinatra Sunday supper, with Bob MacDonald; our ever-popular summer wine festival and luncheon and  a delightful Sunday sing-along brunch featuring everyone’s favorite music from the Sound of Music with our own Maria and Captain Von Trapp

Yes..they’re back!  From Broadway to our-way, “A Grand Night on Broadway” featuring broadway and international  fine artists Prince, Larry and Gay, performing here again after four sold out shows this past year!  We are also featuring a special salute to all the Dads out there with a Father’s Day Grill Fest Cooking Demonstration and Luncheon.

My brother Paul and I want to toast all the fathers and raise a glass to our Papa François. Everyone thought dad was crazy when he moved his restaurant from Washington D.C. to the “country” forty-three years ago. He was a pioneer and, if I may say so, a brilliant restaurateur who cared deeply about his customers. 
We’re happy to continue the traditions he started all of those years ago and happy that so many of you will be celebrating your own fathers with us this month at L’Auberge Chez François and Jacques’ Brasserie.

A Wine Journey to Our Homeland of Alsace:  Sipp Mack Alsatian Wine Dinner
Please join us Thursday, June 6th, 2019 at 7:00 PM for a dinner showcasing the wines of Alsatian producer Sipp Mack, a ninth-generation family winery, currently run by Laura and Jacques Sipp with their daughter, Carolyn. The Sipp Mack winery was created in 1959 following the marriage of two winemaking families, François Sipp from Ribeauvillé and Marie Louise Mack from Hunawihr.  In 1983, following his viticulture and enology studies, business school and work experiences in American wineries for two years, their son, Jacques, returned to Alsace to join the family estate. He brought his wife, Laura, a Californian graduate from the University of California Davis wine program, back with him. Jacques and Laura brought new vision to the vineyard and winery operations. Their desire to make consistently high quality, pure wines that reflect their soils led them to combine Alsatian traditions with modern technology and production methods that protect the environment.  After years certified sustainable farming and integrated pest management, they converted the entire domain to certified organic farming. Sipp Mack’s importer, energetic French wine specialist Franck Agostini, will be on hand to present the wines, and Chef Jacques, of course, has created a menu to accompany the fruits of Alsace.

L’Auberge Chez François’ Premier Chocolate and Wine Festival Featuring Leslie Hollander of Sugar Up, Sugar!
Did someone say Chocolate and Wine? Savor the world of wine and chocolate on a guided tour made for your taste buds. Please join us Saturday, June 8th, 2019 at 1:00 PM for our first luscious and enlightening Chocolate and Wine Tasting. Pastry Chef and Artisanal Confectioner Leslie Hollander of Sugar Up, Sugar! will be joining our head sommelier, Alex Bardsley, this afternoon to present three flights of wine and truffle pairings. Sugar Up,Sugar! is a small local pastry business originating in Great Falls Virginia. Leslie Hollander is the Pastry Specialist/Owner and known for her creative flavor combinations.  Leslie creates each chocolate from scratch, made from quality ingredients and chef tested recipes. Each wine flight will consist of two wines, and each wine will be paired with two truffles. (6 wines sampled and 6 different truffles). Alex will introduce each wine, and together he and Leslie will discuss how the chocolate confections and the wines play off each other. The tasting will be preceded by a meet reception with hors d’oeuvres and a glass of Crémant d’Alace. Beautiful boxes of Leslie’s delectable assorted truffles and Alex’s wines sampled today will be available for purchase at a very special price.

One of Chef Jacques’ favorite pastime is grilling and he’ll share his favorite secrets to making a decadent meal outdoors on the grill. Please join us Friday, June 21st, 2019 at 7:00 PM, for a wine dinner showcasing the delectable “Classic French Estates”  from the Rosenthal collection.  Robert MacFarlane of Potomac Selections, our very respected twenty year plus wine colleague, will be on hand to present these classic wines. Chef Jacques has created a wonderful tasting menu, including Maine Halibut, Seabass, Veal Scaloppini, and everyone’s favorite L’Auberge Chez François’ Grand Marnier Soufflé to complement the “Classic French Estates” this evening.

Summer is Here Wine Festival and Luncheon
L’Auberge Chez François and Chef Jacques’ invite you to our ever popular Wine Festival and Luncheon on Saturday, June 22nd, 2019, to celebrate the arrival of summer.  We begin the day by sampling twelve different wines featuring wines from some of the world’s most notable viticultural regions, including red hot roses, perfect for your summer soirees. Arrive anytime between 11:30am and 1:00pm for a walk-around tasting of these wines, accompanied by Chef Jacques’ tasty seasonal hors d’oeuvres. Sing Along Musical Brunch featuring the Music from the “Sound of Music
Chef Jacques’ and the team at L’Auberge Chez François invites you to enjoy a delectable and fun musical Sunday brunch featuring “Maria”  – Laura Van Duzer and “Captain Von Trapp” -Prince Havely and the songs of the Sound of Music on Sunday June 23rd, 2019 at 11:00 AM.   Hum and sing along, of course with everyone’s favorite Rodgers & Hammerstein tunes from their last stage musical, which includes songs from the Austrian countryside—“Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Do-Re-Mi,” and, of course, the The Sound of Music. Captain Von Trapp, aka Prince Havely, sings with the Washington National Opera, and his regional stage credits include leads in Big River, Miss Saigon and Phantom of the Opera. He has appeared with Capital Steps and as the lead in the Ben Carson Story at Toby’s Dinner Theatre.  Prince has toured with the Gene Donati Orchestra and is a regular featured “sold-out” artist at our musical dinners and brunches at L’Auberge Chez François. Maria, aka Laura Van Duzer, a talented singer-songwriter, performer, pianist, and guitarist will be leading us today on all the fun.  Laura also holds the position of Music Director and Performing Arts Department Chair for the Academy of Holy Cross, in Maryland, and is the former Choral Director for Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School, Arlington, VA, as well as a performer in many dinner theaters and stages in plays and musicals, and lead keyboard and vocals for the Chance Band. An Evening on Broadway Musical Showcase Soirée featuring International and Broadway Veterans

They are BACK! From Broadway, to our way! Following four sold out performances on “our stage” at L’Auberge Chez François, we are thrilled to present to you, on Thursday, June 27th , 2019 at 7:30pm “A Grand Night on Broadway” Musical Showcase Soirée. This very special musical event will feature the talented Prince Havely – Tenor, Larry Friedman – Tenor and Gay Willis – Soprano, performing selections from Phantom of the Opera, The Music Man, Cats, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar and Les Miserables. Prince has toured with the Gene Donati Orchestra, performing for congressional dinners, Senators Balls, and Presidential Galas, including those of Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama  Larry Friedman is a native Washingtonian with extensive experience in live theater, film and television. Gay Willis is an award-winning soprano, performing world tours and on Broadway. She is known for her roles as Christine in Phantom of the Opera and as Magnolia in Showboat, along with other shows such as Into the Woods and West Side Story and sold out performances at Carnegie Hall. We are thrilled to host a return of these talented International and Broadway Veterans, who will take us on a celebratory journey of Broadway paired with Chef’s delectable five course menu and our sommelier-selected wines. Wish them a happy birthday this evening as all three celebrate milestone birthdays!  Truly a musical night on Broadway in Great Falls not to be missed!

Greetings from Chef Jacques and Paul:

The terraces are blooming, the gardens are planted, the wisteria is beautiful and we welcome printemps in our countryside of France right here in Great Falls.  

Springtime also brings our family of L’Auberge Chez Francois and Jacques’ Brasserie celebrating some very prestigious milestones and accolades this month.

We toasted to our 43rd anniversary in Great Falls, Virginia location on April 20th, 2019.  Francois “Papa” Haeringer decided to fulfill his dream of opening an “auberge” – a family inn prevalent in his native Alsatian countryside.  After finding the perfect six acres of rolling green hills in Great Falls, L’Auberge Chez François opened in 1976, and became a family business. This year also marks an incredible milestone, as this year marks 65 years ago, Papa opened the original Chez François in the heart of Washington DC in 1954.

My Papa’s goal was to operate a restaurant with a nice ambiance and good honest food at affordable prices. The restaurant’s enduring popularity is a testimony to his success with this approach.  An incredible 65 years later, we still continue to operate L’Auberge Chez François with Papa’s spirit infusing every aspect of the restaurant, as well as his meticulously crafted meals.  Papa would have it no other way.  Merci beaucoup to all for your patronage and support throughout the years.

This month, L’Auberge Chez Francois was again honored for the 27th year, the prestigious AAA Four Diamond award at AAA’s awards ceremony in DC.  AAA began rolling out their diamond rating system in 1985 region wide and was completed in 1991. We received our first four diamond rating in 1992 and have continued thru the next 26 years to receive this distinguished accolade.  “Only 0.2 percent of the nearly 32,000 AAA-inspected and approved restaurants were included on the list”, AAA said in a release.  On behalf of our entire family of L’Auberge Chez Francois and Jacques’ Brasserie, thank you AAA for your four diamond award recognition. 

 We are excited to announce our May Events Lineup, and what a fun month it will be, packed with special culinary events including “A Mother’s Day Cooking Demo and Luncheon”, Chef Jacques Table Wine dinners, including Domaine Carneros, a repeat of our sold out Rock and Roll supper with moi playing a few tunes on the drums, and other outdoor events on our terrace with flowers in full-bloom! Chef Jacques’ Table Featuring Thelema Mountain Vineyards Dinner

Please join us on Thursday, May 2nd, 2019 at 7:00 PM, as we welcome Thomas Webb, owner of Thelema Mountain Vineyards, a family owned and managed wine estate at the top of the Helshoogte Pass in Stellenbosch, South Africa. It was a taste of some Burgundy Puligny-Montrachet that convinced Gyles Webb to lay down the calculator and abandon his accounting career in Durban to become a winemaker. Shortly after, he obtained a degree in Oenology at Stellenbosch University and after gaining some work experience abroad and in South Africa, Gyles and his wife’s family fell in love with a run-down old fruit farm called Thelema. Gyles has always given meticulous attention to the vineyards, believing that grape quality is the single most important factor in serious winemaking. This persistent precision has paid off in awards for the best vineyards in Stellenbosch. His winemaking policy is one of “benign neglect” or minimum interference, with finings and filtrations kept to an absolute minimum. Gyles also believes in the use of premium wood;  you will therefore find Thelema and Sutherland’s wines resting in quality French barrels.

Please join us for rocking evening Sunday, May 5th, 2019  at 5:30 PM, for another segment of our popular Music and Cuisine series, with a delicious “Sunday Supper” featuring The Classics Band performing hit songs and entertaining music we all love from our youth. This delightful group returns  for a Sunday Supper on Cinco de Mayo, and yes,“Tequila” and “La Bamba” is on the list along with classic hits from the 50s to the 2010s. If you were at their last sold out show, you know The Classics will serve up your favorite songs, delivered masterfully with a good time vibe that will make you smile, clap or get up and dance! The Evening will feature an enticing menu and libations, and an encore performance by Chef Jacques on drums!

A Very Special Domaine Carneros Wine Dinner with TJ Evans, Carneros Winemaker
Please join Chef Jacques and Team on Wednesday, May 8th, 2019 at 7:00 PM for a very special evening with Pinot Noir Winemaker TJ Evans of Domaine Carneros. Domaine Carneros specializes in great, handcrafted pinot noirs and elegant sparkling wines. Prior to joining Domaine Carneros in 2008, TJ Evans spent 10 years in a variety of winemaking positions around the world, during which he developed not only winemaking knowledge, but a deep love of Pinot Noir and the decision to make it the focus of his professional life.  TJ worked harvest at New Zealand’s Villa Maria Estate, apprenticed at France’s 500 year-old Domaine Jean-Louis Chave and served internships with Mondavi Winery and Far Ninete. Our special evening begins at 7:00p (weather permitting) on our beautiful “in-bloom” terrace with Chef’s seasonal canapés paired with chilled Domaine Carneros, Brut Vintage Cuvée.  Feast on Chef Jacques’ five-course dinner featuring the delectable sparkling and Pinot Noir wines of the Grand-Dame, Domaine Carneros.

“A Jazzy Memorial Day Weekend Sunday Supper” featuring Al Williams and Chris Fischer of American Idol

Why not Join Chef Jacques’ and his team on Memorial Day Weekend Sunday, May 26th, 2019 at 6:00 PM for a Jazzy Musical Supper, listening to the smooth standard and pop tunes of Washington Area Music Association’s best Jazz Instrumentalist, Al Williams. Multi-reed player Al Williams III has earned rave reviews from critics and audiences alike for his graceful and melodic style on tenor, alto and soprano saxophones, in addition to alto and C flutes.  Jazz Times has noted the “poetic beauty” of his saxophone solos. Dividing his time among his contemporary jazz band, Al Williams and Friends, Al is one of the most highly regarded musicians around. “Al Williams has a genuine desire to reach people with his music. His music looks right at you and is open and forthright.”  Sabra Best – Entertainment Magazine Joining Al Williams tonight, will be the talented Chris Fischer, a native New Yorker, who relocated to the DC area 6 years ago.  Over the years, he has played with R& B legends such as Blood, Sweat & Tears, The Temptations, Jennifer Hudson and more.  Chris has produced several CD’s and holds the title of being a music and chart arranger for American Idol, 2013 Emmy Awards and BET’s Celebration of Gospel.
